150 girls given self-defense training
Ranjha, July 20 (RSS): A self-defense course was given to girl students of several schools in Banke with a view to minimising violence against women and girls. A total of 150 students received training provided by the National Sports Council under the President Sports Women Participation Enhancement Programme.
The Banke District Sports Development Committee coordinated the event. The objective of training was to encourage girls to fight against violence against them and increase their interest in sports as well, the district committee said.
One of the trainees, Kirti Tharu, a ninth grader at Nepalgunj-based Saraswoti Secondary School, said it gave a new experience to her and motivated her to take countermeasures which could be well applied during possible danger. As she said, she learnt self-defense techniques assisted by bodily organs, teeth and nail in times of possible danger.
Nepal Self-Defense Association main instructor Sanju Maharjan said they hoped that training would be helpful in fighting against violence against girls and women in a significant way.
